Guidelines for the Prayer Shawl & Queen of Heaven Quilter's Ministries of St. James Parish
1. Meetings are usually the second Tuesday of the month for the quilters and the third Tuesday of the month for the prayer shawl ministry (weather permitting).
2. Meetings open and close with Prayer. Silence is appreciated during the prayers.
3. Meetings start no later than 1:00 PM and can run later than 3:30 PM. Enter via the front door facing Torrence Ave.
4. If late, please don't interrupt, or ask us to repeat, do to the limited time we are together.
5. Attendance is not required, but we would like to hear from you once or twice a year to let us know that you are still interested in the Ministries.
6. There are no rules, dues or quota to be met. If you would just like to pray, or work at home, completed items may be placed in our Blue Ministry Basket in the vestibule of the Parish, or brought to a meeting. Please attach your name and the name you have given to your item, and about a foot or more of each color of yarn (Yarn Items). Remember, quantity does not replace quality.
7. We work from the donations in our supply room, however, if you can't work with what has been donated to the Ministry, feel free to purchase your own supplies as you desire. No reimbursements for supplies are available.
8. Please make sure that all of your yarn ends are fastened off securely, or neatly weaved in when adding a new skein or at a color change. If not, your item will be returned to you so you can complete it before gifting.
9. Our recipients come in all sizes from small to extra-large. The suggested sizes are attached. Please make your item large enough to feel the comfort and coziness that our that our prayers represent.
10. All donations made to the Ministry will be inventoried first and then placed in the storage room. Anything that we cannot use will be used in other ways.
11. All donations made to the Ministry are considered the property of St. James the Greater Parish.
12. Due to security. please enter and exit through the Parish office during normal business hours if yo need supplies between meetings. Normal Parish hours are;
Tuesday through Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM. To avoid disappointment, please call ahead (708) 757-2170.
13. A newsletter via email arrives every Friday to keep you abreast of what is happening, donations, stock on hand, recipients and meeting reminders, etc.
14. No children are allowed in the meetings or at the Appreciation Dinner due to insurance regulations.
15. Just a reminder, all items in the supply room are to be used exclusively by and for the Ministries members of St. James the Greater, and not for personal use.
16. Keep in mind, we are not doing this for recognition or personal gain. We do this in service to God.
17. A detailed record of all incoming completed items in kept; this will help avoid duplication in our gifting.
18. A yearly pot-luck appreciation dinner is open to all members and their adult family. This is our thanks for your continued support of the Ministries. The dinner is usually held after Easter Sunday.
19. Guidelines will be reviewed yearly and updated.
20. Membership list and inclement weather phone tree list will be updated yearly in December.

PRAYER SHAWLS: (PSO) Oblong, so smaller than 60"L x 24"W; (PSV) "V" shawls no smaller than 58"W x 36"L.
LAPGHANS: (LGN) Crochet or knit no smaller than 45" square. The larger the better as most are for gentlemen.
LITTLE ANGELS RECEIVING BLANKETS: (LARB) Crochet or knit no smaller than 24" square.
VETERAN QUILTED LAP ROBES: (VLR) No smaller than 36" square, no batting, lined with washable or cotton fabric & one or two pockets added. Sewn together or quilted t prevent tenting or pulling apart in the middle. Kits are available in the storage room for sewing at home.
FLEECE TIED BLANKETS: (FTB) Finished size no smaller than 60" x 50".
